CM Stalin’s Scathing Attack on Modi
Stalin referred to Trump raising tariffs on Indian goods to 50 percent, describing it as a conspiracy by imperialistic forces and urged the Union Government to fight against it
Chennai: Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for keeping mum in both Houses of Parliament when asked if US President Donald Trump’s claim of bringing to an end the recent war between India and Pakistan was true, Chief Minister M K Stalin said that it only exemplified his weakness that was in sharp contrast with the bravery of the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro who took on US imperialism head on and safeguarded his own people.
Speaking at an event jointly organized by the National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba and the CPM party in Chennai on Tuesday, Stalin referred to Trump raising tariffs on Indian goods to 50 percent, describing it as a conspiracy by imperialistic forces and urged the Union Government to fight against it. Why should Trump raise the tariff after five rounds of trade talks had been completed between the two nations, he asked, explaining that imperialistic conspiracies need not necessarily lead to wars alone.
At the function held with the objectives of ‘defeating imperialistic forces’, ‘celebrating Fidel Castro’s centenary’ and ‘saving socialist Cuba,’ a cheque for Rs 25 lakh, collected as donation from the public for Cuba, was handed over to the ambassador of the Caribbean nation Juan Carlos Marsan.
Stalin made use of the occasion to reinforce his association with the CPM and hitting out at his bete noire Edappadi K Palaniswami of the AIADMK by declaring that DMK’s camaraderie with the Communist party was not for elections or for political gains but was based on principles, ideology and idealism, which was unbearable to the AIADMK.
Referring to Palaniswami’s recent endearments towards the Communist parties, Stalin said the AIADMK leader had no right to talk about slavery and said that there was no master-slave relationship in the State’s political firmament. He said that he was a regular reader of the CPM’s official newspaper, ‘Theekathir’ and watched television debates participated by Communist leaders to know their views.
Recalling an event organized in Chennai in 2006 to celebrate the success of Cuba, Stalin said that the then DMK president M Karunanidhi had penned a poem eulogizing Castro, whose translation was preserved by the Cuban leader on his table. In that poem, Cuba is mentioned as a honeycomb because whenever imperialistic America laid its hands on it, the people of the country would raise like honeybees to sting the intruding hand, he said.
Stalin also paid encomiums to Che Guevara and said that both Castro and Guevara still symbolized revolution for the youth. Several CPM leaders, including the party’s national general secretary M A Baby, participated in the event.
