CHENNAI: The TVK’s weekend enrolment drive continued on Saturday with film actor Mansoor Ali Khan and director R V Udhayakumar enrolling as members of the ruling party, along with scores of members from various other parties who lined up at the party headquarters in Panaiyur.
The newcomers were welcomed to the party fold by senior Minister N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna and K A Sengottaiyan and other top brass. Cadre from other parties flocked to Pannaiyur to be part of the party to which ordinary political aspirants and even political veterans are being drawn like bees to honey.
After Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced that the enrolment would go on at weekends in Panaiyur, grassroots level workers have been lining up at Panaiyur during weekends.
On Thursday, veteran Communist leader, C Mahendran, was also inducted into the party, triggering a debate. The former CPI Member of Parliament, however, defended his decision and said that he would continue to wear the red shawl around his shoulders to signify his commitment to the Communist ideology.
