Chennai: DMK Complains Against Vijay and Aadhav Arjuna Over Model Code Violation
The DMK alleged that both TVK leaders violated the Model Code of Conduct during a campaign meeting in Madurantakam.
Chennai: The DMK has filed a complaint against Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and State PWD Minister Aadhav Arjuna for violating the Election Commission of India’s Model Code of Conduct for elections and also for ignoring a directive of the Madras High Court through their speeches made at a campaign for the by-election to the Madurantakam Assembly constituency.
DMK Rajya Sabha member J Constandine Ravindran said in the complaint that while the High Court had categorically told the TVK representatives to refrain from speaking about the POSCO case filed against Gem Granites owner Veeramani by linking it to the DMK or its leaders or functionaries, both TVK leaders spoke on it at Madurantakam on Thursday.
The court had given the direction on Saturday while hearing a defamation suit by DMK general secretary Duraimuguan against TVK Ministers, C T Nirmal Kumar and Aadhav Arjuna, said Ravindran, who alleged that the direction was violated.
He also said that the speech in Madurantakam violated Clause 2 of Part I of the Model Code of Conduct stipulating that criticism of other parties should be confined to their policies and programmes, past record and work.
Requesting the CEC to take cognizance of the violation of the Model Code of Conduct by Vijay and Arjuna, the DMK wanted appropriate action against them.
