BJP State Chief Puts His Foot in His Mouth

Chennai:BJP’s State President Nainar Nagenthiran put his foot in the mouth on Saturday, triggering a raging political controversy, when he said that some were searching for the father in the State Assembly but one will know who the real father is only by asking the mother at home.

Speaking at a book release function in Kamalalayam, the BJP State headquarters in Chennai, Nagenthiran was indirectly referring to an old statement of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay in the State Assembly on his ‘looking for your father,’ which was a veiled reference to the debacle of former Chief Minister M K Stalin in the Assembly elections when he made the controversial ‘ask your mother’ remark

Not only TVK leader and State Minister Rajmohan but also former BJP president and founder of ‘We the Leaders, K Annamalai, came down on Nagenthiran, saying that his remark lowered the dignity of the post he held as it sounded like a platform speaker taking a swipe at a leader.

Nagenthiran was accused of denigrating Vijay’s mother by all those who hauled him over the coals. The collective opinion was that the statement was in bad taste. But Nagenthiran claimed, in an X post, that his remarks were twisted with a view to gaining political advantage.

He had no ulterior motive to denigrate anyone when he made the remark, Nagenthiran said, adding that he had great respect for mother, motherland and mother tongue.

Earlier, too, the BJP state president had landed in a soup when he said that Vijay should come out of the house of Trisha, the actress and co-star of Vijay in many films in February. When Trisha was mulling legal action, the BJP leader apologized for the indiscretion.

Now, he has once again earned the wrath of Vijay by making the unsavoury comment about the Chief Minister’s mother that has evoked public wrath against him.
