Tirunelveli:Former Assembly Speaker M. Appavu has said he wants DMK leader M.K. Stalin to contest the coming by-election from Ambasamudram constituency.

Appavu said electoral defeats of senior political leaders are a normal part of democratic politics, citing leaders such as K. Kamaraj and C.N. Annadurai, who, too, had faced electoral setbacks during their careers. However, he noted that while such outcomes did not cause him concern in general, Stalin’s defeat in Kolathur had caused him deep personal anguish.

He further stated that there was a widely held view in Tamil Nadu that leaders of Stalin’s stature should be present in the Assembly.

Adding that Tirunelveli district has close personal association with Stalin’s family, as it is the place where his daughter was married, Appavu said Stalin should contest from Ambasamudram in the coming by-election and enter the Assembly.

Appavu also expressed confidence that in the by-elections scheduled for Ambasamudram, Tiruchy East, Dharapuram, Perundurai and Madurantakam constituencies, candidates chosen by DMK chief Stalin would emerge victorious.
