Chennai: Perhaps in a bid to not slam the doors on a possible alliance, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami told his party’s district secretaries and other leaders not to criticize the president of the fledgling Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, Vijay, but concentrate on launching an attack on the DMK leaders, particularly Chief Minister M K Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Addressing the party leaders on the second day of the district secretaries meeting at the party headquarters in Chennai on Friday, Stalin urged them to start their campaign for the 2026 Assembly elections immediately by highlighting the alleged lapses of the present DMK government.

Assuring the AIADMK functionaries of a sure victory in the elections, he told them to complete the task of setting up the booth committees all over the State by the end of June and confidently work towards defeating the DMK as the party would forge a grand alliance soon.

Among the major issues that the meeting discussed was on the selection of candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on June 19. Since the AIADMK could choose two members for the Upper House with the support of four other MLAs, which they could garner from its ally, the BJP, there is also demand from other parties like the PMK and the DMDK for a nomination of their candidates.

However, it is learnt that the party would give the seat to one of its prominent members and the announcement on that is expected in a day or two.
