THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Rajendra Arlekar on Thursday invited V D Satheesan to form the government in Kerala.
Satheesan proceeded to Lok Bhavan after attending the Congress Legislature Party meeting at the Legislative Complex, where he was formally elected as leader. The Chief Minister-designate handed over the letter of support for forming the government to the Governor.
The swearing-in of the UDF ministry is set for Monday. Satheeshan, 61, will be sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Kerala along with twenty ministers. The oath ceremony will be held at a grand ceremony at the Central Stadium behind the secretariat.
Satheesan has specially invited AICC general secretary K C Venugopal for the government formation
At the CLP meeting, PCC president Sunny Joseph moved a resolution to elect Satheesan as leader. It was backed by senior leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
The meeting was attended by 62 legislators, along with AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala Deepa Dasmunshi and central observers Mukul Wasnik and Ajay Maken. Ramesh Chennithala, who is reportedly unhappy over the AICC decision, skipped the meeting.
Dasmunshi informed the CLP meeting about the decision made by the AICC. Following this, Satheesan, Wasnik, and Sunny Joseph addressed the gathering.
Satheesan highlighted the contributions of K C Venugopal and the guidance of Ramesh Chennithala, expressing gratitude to the observers for their continued support.
He stated that the massive mandate from the people is a call for good governance in the state. The government’s objective will be to fulfil its promises and ensure effective administration.
Wasnik expressed hope that the new team led by Satheesan would meet the people’s expectations. He highlighted the important role played by K C Venugopal in the UDF’s remarkable victory, noting that the AICC general secretary (organisation) had travelled extensively across the state to campaign for UDF candidates.
He added that the wealth of experience of Ramesh Chennithala benefited the party.
Prominent leaders, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, chief ministers of Telangana, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony on Monday.
Meanwhile, the UDF high power committee will meet on Friday to discuss ministerial berths for allies including the Indian Union Muslim League, Kerala Congress (Joseph), RSP, Kerala Congress (Jacob), CMP, and RMP.
