THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan was elected as the 25th Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Friday.

After the election, Chief Minister V D Satheesan and Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan escorted him to the Speaker’s chair. Representing the Kottayam constituency, Radhakrishnan secured 101 votes. In comparison, LDF candidate A C Moideen received 35 votes, and BJP’s B B Gopakumar got three votes, marking the first time the BJP contested the Speaker’s election in the state.

Governor's address on May 29

The Governor's policy address is scheduled for May 29, and the Deputy Speaker's election will be held on June 1.
