Thiruvananthapuram Police Chief to Supervise Theatre CCTV Leak Probe
The footage showing moviegoers at the Kairali, Sree and Nila theatres in Thiruvananthapuram, was circulated on social media, raising concerns over privacy violations
Thiruvananthapuram: The Keralam Human Rights Commission has directed the city police chief to entrust the supervision of the probe into the leak of CCTV footage from three state-run theatres here to a senior officer.
In an order, the commission chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas directed the police to seek the High-Tech Cell's assistance if required, expedite the investigation and take legal action against those responsible.
The footage, showing moviegoers at the Kairali, Sree and Nila theatres here, was circulated on social media, raising concerns over privacy violations, according to a State Human Rights Commission statement.
The commission directed the state police chief to ensure that all cinema theatres in Keralam take measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), which owns the theatres, told the commission that the footage was leaked without its knowledge or consent.
A case has been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station, and the investigation is under way, the KSFDC said. However, the report submitted by its managing director said investigators had not yet established when, how or through whom the footage was leaked.
The commission directed that the investigation, if still pending, be completed at the earliest.
The commission acted on a complaint filed by public activist and advocate Devadas, based on media reports, the statement said.
