Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister Suresh Gopi returned to Thrissur on Wednesday amid allegations of manipulations in the voters' list ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Tourism declined to respond to media queries regarding allegations of voter list manipulations in his constituency. After arriving by train in Thrissur, Suresh Gopi went straight to Ashwini Hospital to inquire about the well-being of BJP workers who sustained injuries during police action following a march on Tuesday night.

BJP leaders alleged that CPM workers had defaced the MP's office board with black oil and hung a garland of shoes on it.

Later, BJP state general secretary Shobha Surendran and former state president K Surendran led a march to the Commissioner's Office to protest against the police action on their workers on Tuesday. The police used water cannons several times to disperse the crowd.

BJP leaders accused the CPM and Congress of deliberately levelling baseless allegations due to the unprecedented support the party received in the last Lok Sabha elections. Shobha Surendran claimed that the BJP even led in wards of CPM leader Sudhakaran and Congress leader K C Venugopal.

Regarding the voter list manipulation allegations, the BJP state leadership termed the charges "baseless" and politically motivated. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar suggested that the CPM and Congress should approach the courts or the Election Commission of India with their allegations of discrepancies in the voters' list. Instead, these parties are spreading falsehoods to misguide the people, he said.
