THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: At least nine students and a teacher from a government school on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram were hospitalised after a student discharged pepper spray in the classroom.
The spray caused health issues, including respiratory distress, shortness of breath, uneasiness, headaches and nausea.
Initially, the affected individuals were taken to a nearby taluk hospital and then transferred to the General Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
When their condition showed little improvement, they were admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. While most students are stable and being treated in the casualty wing, one student with a history of breathing problems is under observation in the ICU.
The incident took place in Government Higher Secondary School, Punnamoodu in Kalliyoor. After the interval, a teacher entered the classroom to find students struggling to breathe. Some students ran out and fell on the ground, prompting school authorities to rush them to the hospital.
