Thiruvananthapuram: A group of 28 Malayalees stranded in landslide-hit Uttarakhand were airlifted to Uttarkashi on Friday.

The group, which was on a pilgrimage, had to take shelter in Bhaironghati near Gangotri after the landslide. The group of Malayalees consisted of eight people from Kerala and 20 other Malayalees settled in Mumbai. They were on a Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage.

The group had left for Uttarakhand on August 2 and was scheduled to return next week after the Char Dham Yatra. They boarded a bus from Haridwar and headed to Gangotri. However, due to flash floods causing massive road destruction, the group could not proceed further and had to take shelter at a spiritual Centre in Bhaironghati.
