A section of the cliff at Varkala Papanasam Beach, a popular tourist spot in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, has collapsed. Tourism officials and the police reached the spot and conducted an inspection.
The collapse is believed to have been triggered by intermittent rainfall over the past few days.
As rain is likely to continue in the coming days, the Tourism Police have warned visitors to exercise extreme caution while visiting the area. Local residents have demanded immediate as well as permanent safety measures from the authorities, saying that if the upper portion of the cliff also collapses, it could pose a serious danger to both nearby residents and tourists.
