Pathanamthitta: Mountaineer Seena Sara Majnu has been rescued after getting stranded while descending Mount Lobuche in Nepal, her family said on Thursday.

Majnu had said in a social media post on Wednesday that she had fallen while descending the icy mountain and was stranded there.

In a video message, the 41-year-old said that others who had accompanied her had descended the mountain and appealed for help.

On Thursday, she posted a message on her social media account saying, "Dear friends, I am safe."

Her relatives in Thiruvalla here told reporters that they had received a call from authorities in Nepal confirming that she was safe.

"They said that all steps to rescue her were taken on Wednesday. She is safe at a location but could not be contacted due to mobile network issues," they said.

The family said the state and Union governments had acted promptly after her video seeking help was posted on Wednesday.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal coordinated with local authorities and initiated the necessary steps, they added.

"It is not known whether she has suffered any injuries. We are expecting her call," the family said.

Majnu is an experienced mountaineer and the director of an educational institution in Thiruvalla.

She has participated in several mountaineering challenges across the globe and was selected for the Sthree Shakti Award instituted by the Kerala State Women's Commission this year.
