Kerala Youth Arrested for Staging Accident to Win Girlfriend’s Family’s Approval
Police in Pathanamthitta booked a man and his friend for attempted murder after they allegedly orchestrated a car hit on the woman and staged a rescue to appear heroic.
Pathanamthitta: A bizarre plot by a young man to impress his girlfriend’s family by posing as her saviour has landed him in serious legal trouble. The incident came to light after police uncovered that a road accident, in which a young woman was injured, had been deliberately staged.
According to the police, Ranjith Rajan, a resident of Pathanamthitta, was in love with a young woman and wanted to gain the approval of her family for marriage. In an attempt to appear heroic, he allegedly planned an accident in which his friend, Ajesh, intentionally rammed a car into the woman while she was riding her scooter.
The incident occurred on December 23 last year in the Vazhamuttom East area, when the woman was returning home from a coaching centre. She sustained fractures to her elbow and finger in the accident. Shortly after the accident, Ranjith arrived in another car and rushed her to a hospital, creating the impression that he had rescued her.
Unaware of the conspiracy, the injured woman later lodged a complaint with the police. A review of CCTV footage from the area led investigators to identify Ajesh as the driver involved in the hit-and-run. During questioning, the plan was revealed.
Police have registered cases of attempted murder against both Ranjith and Ajesh and are continuing further investigation.
