Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention in connection with the recent bribery case involving people linked to the Enforcement Directorate.

At a press conference, the chief minister said the Prime Minister's intervention was required to restore the faith of the people in the functioning of the premier investigating agency.

The chief minister's remarks came in the wake of the arrest of two men posing as ED agents in Ernakulam. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) arrested the accused while they were accepting a Rs 2 lakh bribe from a Kollam-based trader. The VACB has named ED assistant director Sekhar Kumar as the first accused in the FIR, and his involvement is being probed.

He said there have been several complaints against the ED, including allegations of financial misconduct, but no concrete evidence had come out till now. "There have long been suspicions of questionable dealings involving the D, and now they have been caught red-handed. This issue raises serious questions about the credibility of the central investigating agency, he said.
