THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) Secretary to immediately cancel an order issued for maintenance works worth over ₹1 crore at Cliff House, the official residence of the Chief Minister.

The PWD Secretary has also been instructed to submit an urgent report on how such an order was passed without informing either the Chief Minister or the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Right from the time the government assumed power, the Chief Minister had strictly instructed that no unnecessary beautification or construction activities should be carried out at Cliff House.

According to explanations from the department, the current order was issued as part of a safety audit prepared since 2022. However, the Chief Minister had explicitly stated that no works should be undertaken based on estimates from the previous government's tenure, emphasizing that only absolutely essential renovations should be carried out.

The report has been sought from the PWD Secretary following the department's decision to issue the order bypassing these clear directives.
