India’s Grand Mufti’s Appeal Key in Halting Nimisha Priya's Execution

Thiruvananthapuram: India's Grand Mufti and All India Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar has received the official order that declared that the death sentence of Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya has been put on hold.
94-year-old Kanthapuram shared this update on Facebook. along with the court ruling from Yemen. In his post, Kanthapuam expressed gratitude, stating that prayers have been answered and confirmed receiving the official copy of the court order to postpone the sentence.
He offered prayers for God's mercy and blessings on everyone who contributed through their efforts and prayers.
According to Kanthapuram, the order stated that the execution of the death penalty has been stayed until further notice. However, there is nothing in the order regarding when the case will be considered next.
He assured that there will be further intervention in Nimisha Priya’s case. It was also informed during the court proceedings that discussions are happening with the family of the victim regarding humanitarian considerations.
The petition sought that the death penalty should not be carried out until a decision is made on this. The court accepted this plea.

The Nimisha Priya Legal Aid Committee, which was struggling to contact victim Talal's family, could communicate with them only after the intervention of Yemeni Sunni scholar Syed Umar Hafeez. This became possible due to Kanthapuram’s tireless efforts over the last two days.
