THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Health Minister K Muraleedharan announced on Friday that the government has implemented a strong prevention and monitoring system in response to the Ebola alert.

Preventive measures at airports and facilities in major hospitals were reviewed during a high-level meeting led by the minister. He urged the public to remain calm and follow specific guidelines.

Passengers arriving from Ebola-affected nations like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan must adhere to these guidelines. Anyone showing symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, sore throat, or bleeding should immediately report to the health department at the airport.

He mentioned that the health department will set up a 21-day monitoring system for people arriving from countries flagged by the World Health Organisation and the central government. Passengers coming through four international airports and two seaports in Kerala will be screened, and intensive care units with isolation facilities are ready for those who need them.

Muraleedharan added that health department teams at airports and seaports, district disease surveillance units, and medical colleges will work together following central government guidelines. He also instructed that staff be trained in infection control, PPE usage, treatment protocols, and intensive patient care.
