D Sajith Babu appointed Kerala Chief Electoral Officer

Thiruvananthapuram: IAS officer D Sajith Babu has been appointed as the new CEO of Kerala after the EC approved his appointment, officials said on Saturday.The Office of the Kerala Chief Electoral Officer announced the appointment on its Facebook page.

"Election Commission of India approved the name of D Sajith Babu for the appointment as Chief Electoral Officer, Kerala," it said.

Babu was serving as Special Secretary in the Kerala General Education Department.

He has previously served as District Collector, SupplyCo Commissioner, State Mission Director of the National AYUSH Mission, Registrar of Cooperative Societies and Special Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department, officials said.

Rathan U Kelkar, the previous Kerala CEO, was appointed Secretary to Chief Minister V D Satheesan after the UDF government came to power in May this year.

The state government had recommended Babu's name for the post, which was subsequently approved by the ECI, officials added.
