Congress High Command To Announce Kerala CM on Thursday
The leadership decision is expected to be announced after the high command concludes its consultations.
Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress on Wednesday deferred its decision on the next Chief Minister of Kerala to Thursday after consultations with party leaders.
Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “As authorised by the members of the CLP in Kerala, the Congress high command has concluded all discussions, and the announcement of Kerala’s next Chief Minister will be made tomorrow (Thursday).”
The decision followed meetings in Delhi between Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, which concluded without a public statement.
In Thiruvananthapuram, party workers gathered outside the KPCC headquarters, Indira Bhavan, awaiting clarity on the leadership choice. Supporters also assembled at the residences of key contenders, including V.D. Satheesan in Aluva and Ramesh Chennithala.
The contest remains centred on three leaders — Satheesan, K.C. Venugopal and Chennithala — with each camp staking claim to the post based on legislative support, electoral performance and seniority.
Rahul Gandhi also held consultations with senior leaders, including A.K. Antony and CWC member Kodikkunnil Suresh.
Meanwhile, Nair Service Society general secretary G. Sukumaran said the delay was due to interference from allies and added that coalition partners should accept the party’s final decision.
The leadership decision is expected to be announced after the high command concludes its consultations.
