Armed Robber Steals Rs 15 Lakh From Thrissur Bank Branch

A masked robber looted ₹15 lakh from a Chalakudy bank in Thrissur at knifepoint, locking staff inside a toilet before fleeing on a bike.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a daylight robbery, an unidentified person stole approximately Rs 15 lakh from a bank branch located in Potta, Chalakudy, in Thrissur district.

The incident occurred around 1.30 pm on Friday when the suspect, arriving on a two-wheeler, entered the bank and held the manager and another staff member hostage at knifepoint.

Wearing a jacket and a helmet to conceal his identity, the robber brandished a knife and swiftly approached the cashier's area. He smashed the glass counter, collected the money and then fled the scene.

At the time of the incident, only two staff members were present, including the manager, as the others had gone out for lunch. A police team arrive shortly after the incident to take statements from the staff and review CCTV footage from both the bank and nearby areas.

The robbery involved a single perpetrator who arrived on a two-wheeler. The Thrissur Superintendent of Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident. "Since we don't have much information about his identity. We are exploring all leads. There was more money available in the cash counter; however, he managed to steal about 10 lakh," state Harishankar, the Thrissur range Deputy Inspector General of Police.

The police said the robber attacked the security and locked the manager and another staff inside the toilet at knifepoint. He broke open the Cashier's cabin using a chair, collected the money from the cash counter and fled towards Chalakudy.
