BENGALURU: After a Bengaluru City Civil and Sessions Court on Monday refrained Youtube channels and media houses from publishing or circulating any defamatory content against Harshendra Kumar, brother of Dharmsthala Dharmadhikari Veenredra Heggade, in relation to mass burials at Dharmasthala, Youtube Channels on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court challenging the order.

A major pilgrim centre, Dharmasthala caught the attention after an ex-sanitation worker attached to the Sri Manjunathaswamy Temple at Dharamsthala alleged he buried several bodies of women on the directions from temple authorities from 1995-2015.

Acting on a petition by Harshendra Kumar, the Court ordered persons from posting or sharing any defamatory materials across digital, social or print media until the next hearing.

The petition from Harshendra Kumar stated ‘false’ and ‘defamatory’ statements were being made online and in the media against him, his family, the temple and its institutions despite there are no accusations against them in First Information Reports (FIRs) registered at Dharmasthala police station with regard to mass burials.

The Secretary stated to the Court a series of 8.842 links including 4, 140 Youtube videos, 932 facebook posts and on various social networking sites and the Court ordered removal or de-indexing of already published defamatory content.
