Woman Gang Raped in Davangere, 10 Arrested

Walking alone, the woman is said to have come across a youth who offered her a beverage to quench her thirst. The beverage (soft drink) is said to have contained some drug which made her lose consciousness. The woman was taken to a field where the youth alleged to have rape the woman.

 Bengaluru: A 41-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped in Channagiri taluk of Davangere on June 3 evening leading to arrest of 10 accused persons by jurisdictional Basavapatna police. The alleged gang rape is said to have taken place on June 3 at around 7.30 pm when the woman was on her way to her maternal house.

Sources said the woman had an altercation with her husband, an alcoholic, and fed up over the attitude of her hubby, the woman decided to leave her husband. She decided to walk back to her maternal house located in a nearby village.

Walking alone, the woman is said to have come across a youth who offered her a beverage to quench her thirst. The beverage (soft drink) is said to have contained some drug which made her lose consciousness. The woman was taken to a field where the youth alleged to have rape the woman.

By then, sources said, a group of men were at the spot and then too joined to rape the woman. Regaining her consciousness, the victim reached her maternal house but remained tight-lipped over the incident.

The group which alleged rape the woman is said to have video recorded the incident and also had taken some pictures. They posted the video of the incident which came to the notice of the victim's relatives. Later, the victim filed a complaint with the Basavapatna police who swung into action to arrest the accused persons. Davangere SP H.T. Shekar made the spot inspection.
