Warder Among 5 Arrested for Arranging Phone for Jailed Prajwal Revanna
In connection with the recovery and seizure of a smartphone from his barrack, Prajwal Revanna was produced before the Court in Bengaluru and after 3-days of police custody on September 8, convicted former MP sent back to Central Prison on September 10.
Bengaluru: Karnataka police have taken 5 men into custody, including a prison warder attached to the Bengaluru Central Prison, on the charges of facilitating transportation of mobile phones and SIM cards to convicted rapist and former NDA MP Prajwal Revanna and also to an undertrial prisoner Pratap Rai.
In connection with the recovery and seizure of a smartphone from his barrack, Prajwal Revanna was produced before the Court in Bengaluru, and after 3-days of police custody on September 8, the former JD(S) MP was sent back to Central Prison on September 10.
The accused persons facilitating transportation of mobile phones, SIM cards to prisoners were taken into custody on various dates in August and September based on a complaint by CCB Police Inspector at Parappana Agrahara police station in Bengaluru city.
The use of a smart mobile phone by Prajwal Revanna, lodged in Central Prison, Bengaluru, was detected during a raid on the Central Prison, Bengaluru on August 11 by Central Crime Branch police. In the barrack of Prajwal Revanna in the high security division, the CCB team came across a smartphone, SIM card, a charger and a pen drive. Prajwal Revanna is convicted of rape.
CCB police in a release, said Naveen Kumar was taken into custody and interrogated on August 17 and he has been remanded to judicial custody by a court. A couple days later, Manjunath and Prakash were taken into custody and they were interrogated for 5-days in police custody. The court remanded them to judicial custody.
On August 23, the release said, Siddiq and Mohammed Tauseeef were interrogated by the police for 2-days before the court remanded the two to judicial custody. A team comprising the Police Inspector under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Electronics City Sub-division M .Narayan and Assistant Commissioner of Police K.M., Satish successfully detected the phone facilitation and transportation cases into Central Prison to reach the prisoners.
