Mangaluru: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Mangaluru City Police have arrested a woman of Ugandan origin accused of supplying narcotics to drug peddlers operating in the city. The police seized 4 kg of MDMA, valued at Rs 4 crore, from her.
In a press statement, City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the accused, identified as Jalia Zalwango, was arrested in Jigani on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
“With this a source for the suppliers has been arrested,” he said.
The arrest followed the detention of several drug peddlers in December, during whose interrogation Zalwango’s role as a supplier came to light. Acting on the leads, a Central Crime Branch (CCB) team traced and apprehended her.
The accused was produced before a court, which remanded her to judicial custody.
“The total value of the seized MDMA, as per NCB valuation, is estimated at Rs 4 crore. We will seek her custody for further questioning,” the Commissioner said.
