Three Assam Men Held Over IED Explosion in Bengaluru
Police on Sunday said that the Pulikeshi Nagar IED was an outcome of personal rivalry, and not terror attack
Bengaluru police arrested three persons native of Assam over an explosion using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) concealed inside a torch battery at an under construction building on Jermaiah road under Pulikeshi Nagar police station limits of the city on October 20 and the explosion injured two persons. Two accused were arrested in Bengaluru, another in Maski taluk of Raichur district.
Police on Sunday said a prime accused in the explosion case and one of the injured person were related to each other as cousins. Owing to enmity between them over a land dispute in Assam and financial dispute as well as an issue concerning the cancellation of the accused sister, the prime accused allegedly conspired with other persons from Assam with the intention of murdering one of the injured persons.
The 3 accused persons were childhood friends from Dhinananathpur village of Assam and they formed a Whatsapp group, conspired to commit the crime and shared information with one another to execute their plan. To make their plan a success, police said, the accused obtained information through an online web application, purchased raw materials locally and manufactured an Improvised Explosive Device themselves.
Police said the manufactured IED was placed in a parcel and left it at a petty shop hoping that the intended person from Assam would collect it. The accused subsequently pressured the intended person to open the parcel. However, the parcel was opened by a fellow worker which exploded causing serious injuries to two persons. The accused have been remanded to police custody by a Court and investigation is in progress.
