Sweet Manufacturing Units Inspected, Samples Collected For Testing

BENGALURU: Inspections at 16 sweet manufacturing units in 7 districts of the State on Monday ahead of coming festive season led to seizure of 367 kilos of cocoa powder, 4.5 kg of cracked cocoa beans, 6 kilos of khova and 196 kilos of fennel powder over missing mandatory labelling such as manufacturer’s name, address and FSSAI license number.
The inspections were conducted in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, Kalaburagi and Hubballi-Dharwad.
The inspections by Food Safety and Drug Administration Department officials/personnel collected samples of sweets, cooking oil, curd, lentils, khova, jalebi, tea powder and other products for lab testing.
Expired food items including 5 litres of Nandini curd, 13 large and six small packets of mislabelled chocolate decorative items, 10 kg of chocolate flavour and 5 kg of rasgulla were seized. Misbranded packaged foods such as banana chips and chakli masala were detected. In all, an estimated food item worth Rs 5.99 lakh were seized.
