Son of Late Don Muthappa Rai Shot at Near Bengaluru; Survives Attack
Assailants fled the spot after firing at the car.

Bengaluru: Unidentified persons fired at least three rounds of bullets at Ricky Rai, son of late don Muthappa Rai, close to his farm in Bidadi, about 40-km from Bengaluru city in the midnight of Friday. Sources told Deccan Chronicle Ricky Rai is out of danger after a futile attack on his life.
While the assailants fled the spot after firing at the car in which Ricky Rai was travelling to Bengaluru city from Bidadi, an injured Rickey Rai was rushed to a private hospital in Bengaluru city where he is undergoing treatment. Rai is expected to undergo surgery for his injury to his nose later in the evening. However, he was not in a position to speak.
While sources Ricky Rai has several rivals but the main suspect for the attack is said to be over property dispute with his second wife. Meanwhile, based on a complaint by Rai’s car driver Basavaraju, a First Information Report (FIR) in Bidadi police station of Ramanagar district. In the FIR, Rakesh Malli, Anuradha, Nithesh Shetty and Vaidyanathan and his followers have been named as accused for the attack on Rai.
Basavaraju, the car driver of Rai, said, when Rai was shifted to Bengaluru city from Bidadi, he uttered the names of the accused persons.
The firing incident is said to have taken place around 12.30 am. One of the attackers on Ricky Rai is said to have positioned himself hiding in a passage on the road used by Ricky Rai to travel to Bengaluru and fired at the car. Ricky Rai was in the rear seat along with his gunman.
Sources told this newspaper “Normally, Rickey Rai used to drive his car and for some reason he decided to sit in the rear seat of his car. Driver Basavaraju was asked to drive the car.” The bullets fired at Rai’s car narrowly missed driver Basavaraju and he is said to have ducked to escape bullets.
The bullets fired at Ricky Rai injured his nose and soon after blood started to ooze out from the nose area and his face was full of blood. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Bengaluru city in an ambulance.
Rai’s advocate Narayanswamy said Rai faced threats from rivals and stated “His rivals were many.” Rai had returned from aboard a couple of days back. Narayanswamy suspected some persons might have stalked Rai for a couple of times before carrying out an attack on him.
Ramanagar Superintendent of Police Srinivas Gowda and senior police officials rushed to the spot and conducted a mahajar of the spot. Forensic experts were pressed into action.
