Six Killed In Vijayapura Land Dispute Attack
The incident occurred between 2 pm and 2.30 pm in an agricultural field at Govindpur village, about 20 km from Chadachan town: Police
VIJAYAPURA: Six persons were murdered at Govindpur under Chadachan police station limits in Vijayapura district of Karnataka on Friday afternoon. Two others sustained injuries in the attack and are undergoing treatment at BLDE Hospital in Vijayapura city. Initial reports suggest the incident was linked to a long‑standing rivalry tied to an earlier murder case.
The deceased were identified as Dundappa Revansiddappa Nirale (65), Shivaputra Revansiddappa Nirale (58), Chandrakant alias Chandu Nirale (55), Rahul Nirale (25), Samarth Nirale (23) and Shabbir Babu Attar (45), all residents of Chadachan. The injured are Aravind Katage (72), an agriculturist from Dasur village, and Sandeep Mane (33), a JCB operator from Maharashtra.
Police said the incident occurred between 2 pm and 2.30 pm in an agricultural field at Govindpur village, about 20 km from Chadachan town. Preliminary investigation indicated roots in a 2015 murder case registered at Chadachan police station, in which Shivanand Patil, son of Kallanagouda Patil of Govindpur, was killed after allegedly eloping with a girl from the Ganiga community. Four persons from the Ganiga community were convicted in that case.
Police said the accused in the earlier case had abandoned their agricultural land in Govindpur and moved elsewhere. The land remained uncultivated for years and was recently purchased by the victims in Friday’s incident. Investigators suspect a dispute over the transaction may have triggered the attack.
Senior officers, including Vijayapura additional SP Laxman Nimbargi, Indi DSP and Chadachan CPI, rushed to the spot. Teams from the scene of Crime Office and fingerprint experts examined the site. To maintain law and order as tension prevailed, police deployed three DAR teams and four KSRP platoons.
The bodies were shifted to BLDE Hospital for postmortem. Police sources said persons linked to the complainant’s side in the 2015 case are suspected to be behind the killings, though no official confirmation has been made. A case has been registered at Chadachan police station and investigation is in progress.
