Six killed as container truck overturns on car in Karnataka
Bengaluru; In a horrific accident on National Highway-48 near Nelamangala, six members of a family including three children were crushed to death on the spot after a container travelling from Tumakuru jumped road median and fell on their car near T. Begur on Saturday. The family members were on their way to their native place Vijayapura from Bengaluru when the tragedy struck on the National Highway.
The deceased have been identified as Chandrayagappa Gowl (48), Gowrabai (42), Vijayalakshmi (36) and the names of the children are Jnan (16), Deeksha (12) and Arya (6). The family of Chandram included his wife and his children. Besides, his sister and her son.
The container driver identified as Arif, a native of Jharkhand, treated for his injuries at a hospital told reporters that he drove the container from Dabaspet to Bengaluru via bypass and moved slowly on the road. I noticed a car and the car driver applied brakes at once and in order to avoid collision with the car, I took the container to the right and then turned to the left.
Adding, he said, by the same time, another truck was also advancing on the road and to avert collision with the truck, I turned the container to the left side. After the turn to the left side, the container toppled by jumping the divider (falling on the car coming in the opposite direction).
Arif stated he was unaware of the death of six family members after a truck which he drove jumped the divider.
Chandrayappa Gowl, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of an IT firm in Bengaluru and resided at HSR Layout in the city. The family were proceeding to Vijayapura for Christmas holidays when the accident occurred. The IT firm was started by Chandram in 2018.
Senior police officials visited the spot and a case has been registered.
An employee of the IT firm owned by Chandram, Chetan expressed shock over the death of his boss and yet to come to terms with the death of his boss.
