SIT Head Lauds Prajwal Revanna Victim's Grit, Justice Secured In Unique Case

Bengaluru: Head of the special investigation team (SIT) B.K. Singh that probed the charges against JD(S) former MP Prajwal Revanna on Saturday lauded the rape victim for standing firm against the perpetrator despite all adversities.

Terming the case unique, Singh stated that the victim, coming from weakest of the societal strata, had set a powerful example by her grit and determination to stand against the perpetrator who came from a socially, economically and politically powerful family.

Prajwal is the grandson of former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda, his uncle H.D. Kumarasamy, twice chief minister, is a Union minister. Prajwal’s father H.D. Revanna is a JDS MLA representing Holenarsipura and a former minister.

Singh said, “The SIT with the cooperation of prosecution and judiciary could complete the investigation and trial within a year and three months. We were able to secure justice to the victim.”

The case was committed on trial on December 12, 2024 to the 81st Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge, Bengaluru, heading the Special Court for MPs/MLAs in Karnataka. Trial commenced on May 2 with the examination of the victim and other important witnesses. A total of 26 witnesses and nine material objects were examined and 180 exhibits were marked.

Singh said the trial was conducted daily from May 2 till July 18. “Owing to effective objections and arguments in the sessions and in the higher courts, the accused was denied bail and is still in the judicial custody from the date of his arrest on May 31, 2024.”
