Shakti Scheme Enters Golden Book Of World Records for 500 Crore Rides
The ‘Shakti’ scheme is one of the five schemes implemented by the ruling Congress government in Karnataka and the free ride scheme for women was launched on June 11, 2023
BENGALURU: The State Government’s ‘Shakti’ scheme which allows free rides for women/girls in State owned buses entered Golden Book of World Records for achieving Five Billion Forty Nine Million Forty Hundred Seventy Six Thousand Four Hundred Sixteen (5049476416) women passengers from June 11, 2023 to June 10, 2025.
The Minister of Transport Ramalinga Reddy disclosed the world record of ‘Shakti’ scheme and attributed the achievement to personnel of four transport corporations, managing directors, officers, chairmen and vice-presidents.
The ‘Shakti’ scheme is one of the five schemes implemented by the ruling Congress government in Karnataka and the free ride scheme for women was launched on June 11, 2023. The numbers gathered are of four transport corporations-Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Kalyana Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
Expressing happiness over the world record, Ramalinga Reddy stated a survey report of Sustainable Mobility Report pointed to an increase in numbers of women employees in Bengaluru by 23 percent and Hubballi-Dharwad about 21 percent. The survey was conducted in 10 cities of the country and stated the rise in women workforce also contributed to increase in per capita income.
Reddy stated the State Government launched Shakti’ scheme has been emulated by other State Governments and launched in different names.
