Roy's Final Rites Conducted, Son Says "Yet to Come to Terms with his Father's Suicide"

Roy (57) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his pistol at his Corporate Office near Richmond Circle of Bengaluru city on Friday at around 3.15 pm when Income Tax officials team from Kerala were at the Office to question him over reported tax evasion.

Bengaluru: The final rites of business tycoon and chairman of Confident Group C.J. Roy was conducted as per Christian tradition at Confident Cascade, a resort and convention centre on Bannerghatta road in Bengaluru on Sunday. Roy’s relatives and friends especially from Kerala and Dubai arrived in Bengaluru to pay their last respects to him. Prior to last rites, the mortal remains of Roy were taken to St John’s Church at Kalkere in Bengaluru for offering prayers.

His son Rohit stated “I don’t have words to say because I’m trying to process what happened.” He termed his father “a great man” and stated “I’m at a loss of words. I’m not sure what really caused it (C.J. Roy taking drastic step to end his life by shooting himself).” Rohit assured the media persons to come before the media to take questions related to his father’s death in coming days.

Though a formal report on his death is yet to come out, preliminary findings point to Roy allegedly died by a single bullet shot at his office in Confident Group’s Corporate Office. The bullet pierced his heart and lungs and is said to have collapsed instantly from the pistol shot.

Earlier, the body of C.J. Roy was handed over to the family members after conducting an autopsy at Bowing Hospital in Bengaluru city. C.J. Babu, brother of deceased C.J. Roy suspected constant pressure from IT officials might be the cause for his taking the extreme step to end his life.

To probe the death of Roy, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru Semanth Kumar Singh constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the SIT is headed by Joint Commissioner of Police, West Zone C. Vamshi Krishna.
