POCSO Case Filed After Teen Girl Dies by Suicide in Mangaluru
A special police team has been formed to trace and apprehend the accused
Mangaluru: A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide within the limits of the Suratkal police station on Tuesday evening.
Police said the girl left a suicide note addressed to her parents, stating that she had made a mistake. The note reportedly mentioned that "he is happy" and that Hindu organisations did not help her, even though he was associated with them.
At around 11 pm, the girl's parents lodged a complaint alleging that she was pregnant and holding a man identified as Aneesh responsible for her death.
City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that, based on the complaint, Suratkal police registered an FIR against Aneesh Poojary at 1 am under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as well as charges of rape and abetment of suicide.
He said a postmortem examination had been conducted and the foetus had been collected for DNA testing.
