One dead, Several Hurt After Sleeper Bus Overturns In Haveri

Police said that the driver, Sameer M, was driving at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner. At the Haveri bypass, the bus reportedly moved towards the left and, while entering the service road, lost control and overturned on its right side.

Haveri: A teenager was killed and several passengers injured when a private sleeper bus overturned near the Haveri bypass in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased was identified as Bhavar Singh (18) of Magadi in Bengaluru. The accident occurred around 4.30 am when the AC sleeper coach was travelling towards Bengaluru from Hubballi.

Police said that the driver, Sameer M, was driving at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner. At the Haveri bypass, the bus reportedly moved towards the left and, while entering the service road, lost control and overturned on its right side. The bus overturned, leaving several passengers injured. Bhavar Singh suffered critical injuries and died, while 20 others including sustained injuries. The driver was also injured.

The passengers were from different parts of Karnataka as well as Goa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Manipur, police said.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the bus driver and began an investigation into the accident.
