NHRC to Probe Secret Burial Claims in Dharmasthala

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has stepped in to probe allegations of mass secret burials in Dharmasthala, visiting places and meeting local officials.

A four-member NHRC team arrived in Belthangady taluk and began gathering records and information from various sources.

Mangaluru: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has stepped in to probe allegations of mass secret burials in Dharmasthala, visiting places and meeting local officials.

A four-member NHRC team arrived in Belthangady taluk and began gathering records and information from various sources. The officials visited the Dharmasthala Gram Panchayat, the temple premises, the local police station, and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office handling the ongoing probe.

According to sources the Commission has sought various documents from the Gram Panchayat and recorded statements from sanitation workers. The team also met several individuals privately to collect testimonies.

The NHRC’s visit is expected to continue for the next four to five days.

According to sources the Commission has suo motu taken note of the development and has arrived in the temple town.
