Murder Accused MLA Byrathi Basavaraj Arrested on His Arrival to Bengaluru

 Bengaluru: After his anticipatory bail was rejected by the Supreme Court, former minister and MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, an accused in the murder of a rowdy-sheeter turned realtor Biklu Shivu (40), was on Thursday arrested by police before handing him over to sleuths of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) near Bengaluru.

The arrest was made after the MLA belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) landed at the airport from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The BJP MLA, represents Krishnaraja Puram Assembly seat in Bengaluru and is accused 5 in the murder of Biklu Shiva, a rowdy-sheeter who was hacked to death by a group near his house close to Halasuru Lake of Bengaluru city on July 15 previous year.

The mother of deceased Biklu Shiva in her complaint alleged the role of Byrathi Basavaraj in her son’s murder and stated her son faced threat from Byrathi Basavaraj.

Considering the seriousness of the case, the State Government handed over the case to CID sleuths. It is alleged Biklu Shivu was allegedly murdered over a land dispute and the accused persons identified as Jagadeesh, accused 1 in the case, is said to have a close associate of Byrathi Basavaraj.

Earlier his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the High Court of Karnataka. After being denied bail, Basavaraj was said to be on the run while CID sleuths issued a ‘lookout’ notice against the BJP MLA. After arrest, CID sleuths quizzed Byrathi Basavaraj in connection with the murder of Biklu Shivu.
