MRPL Announces ₹1.20 Crore Aid, Insurance Benefits For Fire Victim’s Family
MRPL announced financial aid and insurance benefits of about ₹1.20 crore for the family of a worker killed in the September 30 fire incident.
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has announced financial assistance and insurance benefits totalling approximately Rs 1.20 crore for the family of Manish Karkada, who was killed in the fire incident at the company’s Coker Hydrotreater Unit (CHTU) on September 30.
The package includes financial support of Rs 90 lakh from MRPL besides benefits of approximately Rs 10 lakh under the Group Term Life Insurance (GTLI) and Rs 20 lakh under the Workmen Compensation Policy, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
MRPL expressed condolences to the bereaved family and said it would extend all possible support.
The company also said a proposal to provide mediclaim insurance coverage for its secondary workforce was being prepared. The proposal is under discussion and will be finalised after consultations with the Dakshina Kannada MP and Deputy Commissioner.
MRPL expects the proposed mediclaim arrangement to be completed within about four weeks, it said.
The company reiterated its commitment to the safety, health and welfare of all personnel associated with its operations.
Earlier in the day, a protest was held outside MRPL where protestors placed demands like Rs 1 crore compensation to the family of the victim and comprehensive health insurance for all the workers. Moodabidri MLA Umanath Kotian also arrived at the spot.
Meanwhile, according to the assessment of the district administration 54 houses were damaged in the incident, including 25 in Jokatte, 19 in Kalavaru and 10 in Baala. Eight places of worship were also damaged — five in Jokatte and three in Kalavaru.
