Belagavi: Even as many are celebrating Colonel Sofiya Qureshi’s Belagavi roots following her appointment as the Indian Army’s spokesperson, a misleading post briefly circulated on social media before being taken down.
The post, by a person (Anis Uddin) on platform X, carried the headline “Disturbing Attack on Muslim Indian Army Officer’s Family” and falsely claimed that Colonel Qureshi’s family home in Belagavi had been attacked and set on fire by 'RSS extremists.' The post further claimed that Colonel Qureshi had become the latest target of RSS-led hate.
However, the post was later deleted, sources said.
Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bheemashankar Guled confirmed that the viral message was fake.
“No such incident has occurred,” he clarified.
Authorities have urged the public not to fall for unverified content on social media.
