Cabinet Snub: Disgruntled MLAs Threaten To Quit, Indi MLA Resigns

Bengaluru: Unhappy over being excluded from the Karnataka cabinet expansion, two disgruntled Congress MLAs have quit their positions as MLAs on Monday.

The Congress MLA from Indi assembly seat, Yashavantarayagouda V Patil resigned from his legislative post on Monday, official sources said.

Patil submitted his resignation letter to Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly Rudrappa Lamani at the Vidhana Soudha here, they said.

Following the announcement, his supporters staged a protest here, shouting slogans and alleging injustice.

Sagar MLA To Quit on Tuesday

“Either you have to be influential or son of a former Chief Minister or a Minister to get preference in making into the ministry,” reacted Congress MLA and Chairman of Karnataka State Forest Industries Corporation Gopala Krishna Beluru over his missing ministerial berth.

He announced his decision to quit as Sagar Assembly seat MLA in Shivamogga and told reporters in Bengaluru “to resign on Tuesday.”

Expressing displeasure over the missing a berth, Gopala Krishna questioned “Doesn’t ordinary MLA deserve to be Minister and serve people.”

He questioned the party leadership over MLAs to be Ministers and stated “Leaders say to induct new faces but where are new faces in the list.” Gopala Krishna termed the decision to leave him out of the cabinet expansion as “cheat.”

Two months after assuming charge as the Chief Minister, Shivakumar will expand his Cabinet on Monday by appointing 20 ministers.
