Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta has said that he was in constant touch with the MRPL officials, the Police Commissioner, Bajpe Town Panchayat officials and the Fire department following the blast at the MRPL unit at Kalavar on Wednesday.
In a statement, Chowta said he had obtained information from the authorities about the incident and was closely monitoring the situation after the blast. He said instructions had been issued to bring the situation fully under control and intensify safety operations.
As a precautionary measure, local hospitals had also been asked to remain prepared to handle any emergency and make necessary arrangements, he said.
“All necessary safety measures are being taken and I appeal to the public not to panic,” Chowta said.
Chowta said he had cancelled all his pre-scheduled public programmes in Belthangady on Wednesday and was proceeding to the site to personally assess the situation.
He appealed to the public to remain calm, not spread rumours or misinformation and extend full cooperation to the administration.
