Mangaluru: Inter-District Thief Arrested, Gold And Cash Recovered
City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that the arrested accused has been identified as Mohammed Imran NM (44), a resident of Madikeri in Kodagu district.
Mangaluru: Barke police, under the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate, arrested an inter-district thief in connection with the theft of a bag containing gold ornaments and cash from a KSRTC bus at the Bijai bus stand.
Police recovered gold ornaments weighing 46.28 grams worth Rs 6,47,920 and Rs 5,000 in cash from the accused.
According to police, the theft occurred on January 23 around 7 pm at the KSRTC bus stand in Bijai, which comes under the Barke police station limits. Two women and a senior citizen, who were travelling to Bengaluru, had kept a trolley bag containing about 45 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 20,000 in cash on the bus seat. Taking advantage of the rush, an unknown person allegedly stole the bag and fled. A case was registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and an investigation was launched.
A special team was formed under the guidance of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Sub-Division. The team, led by PSI Vinayak Toragal, traced and arrested the accused near Mangaluru Central Railway Station on January 28. The accused was produced before a court on January 29 and remanded to judicial custody.

Police said Mohammed Imran is a habitual offender who targets bags containing valuables at bus stands.
As many as 11 cases have been registered against him in various police stations, including Dudda Police Station (1), Komanur (1), Hassan Extension (1), Hassan City (1), Channarayapatna Town (1), and Mysuru Devaraja Police Station (1) for bag theft.
He is also involved in house theft cases registered at Shantigrama Police Station (Hassan district) (1), Hassan Extension Police Station (2), and Dudda Police Station (1).
Officials added the accused had obtained bail in a house theft case in Hassan district but failed to appear before the court for trial, following which a warrant had been issued against him.
