BENGALURU: A person, identified as Sanjay, tried to slit the throat of his live-in relationship partner with a knife in broad daylight under Madanayakanahalli police station limits of Bengaluru on Wednesday before people around came to the rescue of the woman. The wife sustained minor injuries in her hands in the attack.

Sanjay and Sonal, the victim, were in a live-in relationship. The reason for the attack on the wife by the attacker is allegedly over cheating which led to an altercation leading to the attack.

Prior to the attack, a person on a two-wheeler wearing a helmet to mask his identity did a couple of surveys near Dark Garments Factory Outlet before he came across Sonal walking on the footpath. He stopped his two-wheeler by applying brakes abruptly and parked his two-wheeler to carry out the attack. The attacker took out a knife to slit the throat of his partner on seeing her on the footpath.

While the victim resisted and screamed over the attack on her, a youth came to her rescue initially and soon others in the vicinity joined to rescue the victim from the assailants. The victim was rescued successfully by locals around and the attacker was beaten-up over his act. The victim was visibly shattered from the attack and was seen taking a breather from the horror on her as per visuals caught on cctv camera installed in the vicinity.

Sources said the woman would have sustained serious injuries that could have led to fatality had locals had come to her rescue. The assailant Sanjay was handed over to Madanayanakanahalli police. Police said a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) has been registered at the jurisdictional police station.
