Hosapete: A man from Kottur in Vijayanagara district who allegedly murdered his parents and younger sister and later attempted to mislead police by filing a missing persons complaint has been arrested by the Thilaknagar Police.
The accused, Akshay BJ (27), is alleged to have killed his father Bhimaraj H (52), mother Jayalakshmi G (50), and sister Amrutha BJ (18), and buried their bodies at their house in Kottur.
On January 29 night, Akshay had approached the Thilaknagar Police Station in Bengaluru claiming that his ailing father was referred to Jayadeva Hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment. He told police that on the morning of January 27, his parents and sister left home in Kottur for Bengaluru. In his complaint, he also stated that they were carrying Rs 4 lakh to hand over to his uncle Vasanth Kumar, who resides in Bengaluru. Akshay also claimed his sister had called him on Jan 29 asking him to come to Bengaluru immediately, saying her mobile phone had been seized. Later her mobile was switched off.
He further told police that on the next day on his arrival he and his uncle approached the hospital, checked CCTV footage at the hospital but found no trace of his family members coming to the hospital.
However, police found discrepancies in his narration and subjected him to questioning, during which he allegedly confessed to murdering his parents and sister and burying their bodies.
“Based on his statement, a murder case was registered yesterday by the Thilaknagar Police. Today, the team, led by the Inspector came to Kottur Town for spot inspection. They sought assistance from local police. In the presence of the Assistant Commissioner, the bodies were exhumed and sent for post-mortem,” Vijayanagara Superintendent of Police S Jahnavi told reporters.
"They have seized whatever is important for their investigation," she said.
"The investigation is being conducted by the Thilaknagar Police. If the case is transferred to Vijayanagara district, we will conduct the probe," she added.
Police said the motive for the crime, the exact time of the murders and the method used are being investigated. Police stated that the FIR related to murder mentions the involvement of another person in the case.
