Koppal : Two Officials Arrested While Allegedly Accepting Rs 40,000 Bribe
The arrested accused have been identified as Somanath T, the administrative officer of Sangapur, and village assistant Hanumesh Bandi Anjaneya.
Koppal: A Panchayat administrative officer and a village assistant were arrested in a Lokayukta trap on Tuesday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 to transfer land records into the name of a beneficiary who had inherited the property through a will.
The arrested accused have been identified as Somanath T, the administrative officer of Sangapur, and village assistant Hanumesh Bandi Anjaneya.
According to the Koppal Lokayukta office, Ramu, a resident of Anjanahalli in Gangavathi taluk, had inherited land from his maternal grandfather through a will. He had submitted an application at the Gangavathi Tahsildar's office seeking to have the land records transferred to his name.
However, Somanath and Hanumesh allegedly demanded Rs 40,000 from him to complete the process.
Following this Ramu approached the Lokayukta police station in Koppal on October 5 and lodged a complaint regarding the demand.
Based on the complaint, Lokayukta officials laid a trap on Tuesday. At around 12.40 pm, the two accused were allegedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 40,000 from Ramu. The bribe amount was seized from them.
The trap operation was conducted by a team comprising Koppal Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijaya Biradar, Police Inspectors Sunil MegalamanI and Shaila S Patil Shettar, and other personnel, under the guidance of Raichur Karnataka Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Siddaraju C.
