Karnataka: Walking Again, 75-Year-Old Returns To Hospital With Sacks Of Gratitude
Nabisab Pinjar had suffered a severe injury to his left hip after slipping and falling. Unable to walk, he was admitted to BLDE Hospital in Vijayapura: Reports
VIJAYAPURA: Patients usually return to hospitals for follow-up consultations or fresh ailments. Two weeks after undergoing a bipolar hemiarthroplasty procedure for a hip injury, 75-year-old Nabisab Pinjar returned to BLDE Hospital on Wednesday carrying rice and wheat sacks as a token of gratitude to the hospital that helped him walk again.
Accompanied by his daughter and grandson, the Gornal village resident approached Medical Superintendent Dr SN Bentur and orthopaedic surgeon Dr Girish Khodnapur with an unusual request — to accept rice and wheat to the hospital as a token of gratitude.
The visit has a small flashback.
Nabisab Pinjar had suffered a severe injury to his left hip after slipping and falling. Unable to walk, he was admitted to BLDE Hospital in Vijayapura.
Two weeks ago, a team led by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Girish Khodnapur, along with anaesthetist, performed a bipolar hemiarthroplasty procedure. The surgery was carried out free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat- Arogya Karnataka (ABARK) scheme. Following the successful operation, Nabisab returned to his village. The recovery was faster, and within a few days, he was able to walk comfortably again without the aid of a walking stick.
Nabisab was happy with this recovery, the service provided by the hospital, and the doctors and staff for their service.
Wanting to thank the doctors and hospital staff who helped him regain his mobility, Nabisab chose to express his gratitude in a way he felt was meaningful. During his stay at the hospital, he had noticed that free meals were served every day to patients in the general ward.
Believing his contribution could help that effort, he brought sacks of rice and wheat to donate to the hospital.
During his visit, Nabisab recalled the anxiety he felt before the surgery.
"At my age, I was worried whether I would ever be able to walk independently again. But the doctors gave me confidence and treated me well. Today, I can walk normally," Nabisab said.
Dr Khodnapur said the gesture left him speechless.
"BLDE Institution President MB Patil and Chancellor BM Patil have always emphasised quality treatment for every patient. Such moments inspire us to continue serving with greater commitment," he said.
Assistant Administrative Officer Eknath Jadhav was also present on the occasion.
The rice and wheat donated by Nabisab were later handed over to the hospital's food distribution section.

Ballari: Bike theft probe leads to recovery of 41 stolen motorcycles
Ballari: What began as the investigation into the theft of a single motorcycle in Siruguppa has led police to a suspected serial bike thief and the recovery of 41 stolen motorcycles.
Siruguppa police have arrested a 56-year-old autorickshaw driver and recovered 41 stolen motorcycles worth about Rs 20.5 lakh, allegedly stolen from various parts of Ballari, Chitradurga and Vijayanagara districts, Ballari SP Suman D Pennekar told reporters on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as Siddareddy alias "Splendor" Siddareddy, a resident of Ashok Nagar in Ballari. The accused is said to have earned the nickname Splendor Siddareddy because of his alleged preference for stealing Hero Honda Splendor motorcycles.
The breakthrough came while investigating the theft of a Hero motorcycle reported stolen from a ground in Siruguppa town on June 2. During the probe, investigators found that the accused had allegedly stolen not only the Hero motorcycle involved in the case but several other motorcycles as well.
Further investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly stolen motorcycles from Siruguppa, Ballari city, Hosapete, Molakalmuru, Challakere and Chitradurga. All 41 motorcycles have been recovered and seized, police said. Of the recovered vehicles, 16 were reported stolen from Ballari district, 21 from Chitradurga district and four from Vijayanagara district.
According to the police, the modus operandi is very interesting.
Siddareddy primarily targeted Hero Honda Splendor motorcycles parked in crowded public places during daytime. He allegedly used duplicate keys to steal the vehicles and later removed their original number plates. He would photograph registration numbers of motorcycles on roads and use those details to obtain duplicate registration documents from KarnatakaOne by falsely claiming that the original documents had been lost. He would then get new number plates made, affix them to the stolen motorcycles and sell the vehicles as genuine second-hand bikes to unsuspecting buyers.
The investigation revealed that the accused had used this method to dispose of the stolen motorcycles and avoid detection.
The accused has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
The operation was carried out by a special team of Siruguppa police with technical assistance under the supervision of senior district police officers.
