Sindhanur: BJP state president BY Vijayendra on Friday accused the Congress government of failing the poor and vulnerable sections, alleging that beneficiaries of social security pensions had been left waiting for their monthly payments for months.

Speaking to reporters during the fourth-day padayatra in Sindhanur, Vijayendra said the DK Shivakumar-led government was moving away from the poor, farmers, daily-wage workers and other vulnerable sections of society.
“Old-age pensions, monthly assistance for persons with disabilities and other social security benefits had not reached beneficiaries for several months. Beneficiaries themselves had complained that they had not received their pensions for the past six months,” he said.
“The government, which is supposed to support the poorest sections, is not responding to their difficulties,” he Vijayendra alleged.
The BJP chief also claimed that eligible beneficiaries were not receiving the benefits of the Ganga Kalyana scheme properly. The government had also failed to provide houses to poor families without homes, he alleged.
“The Congress government had reached a stage where it was unable to release even funds meant for the welfare of the poor on time,” Vijayendra said.
He accused the government of neglecting farmers, daily-wage workers, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and other sections of society while focusing on the publicity surrounding its five guarantee schemes.
“On one side, the government is immersed in promoting the guarantees, while on the other, the genuine problems of the poorest people of the state are being ignored,” he said.
Vijayendra alleged that the Congress government had become a “curse” for the poorest sections of Karnataka and claimed that people were increasingly frustrated with its administration.
He urged the government to come out of what he described as the “illusion” of the guarantees and immediately address the genuine problems being faced by people across the state.
