Karnataka: Raichur To Host South India Badminton Tournament From Sept 5

RAICHUR: Raichur is set to host the South India Badminton Tournament from September 5 to 8, with around 250 to 300 leading shuttlers from seven States and Union Territories expected to take part.
The tournament is being organised under the leadership of the Karnataka Badminton Association (KBA), in association with the district administration and local elected representatives.
Giving details about the event KBA president and former minister Kumar Bangarappa S said that The South India-level tournament is held in Karnataka once every six years and has traditionally been hosted in Bengaluru.
“The KBA has chosen Raichur this time to provide greater exposure and encouragement to sportspersons from rural areas and the Kalyana Karnataka region,” he said.
Players from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and host Karnataka will participate in the tournament. Coaches and members of technical teams will also be part of the event.
He said the tournament would also provide an opportunity for players to gain exposure at a higher level. Those putting up strong performances would be eligible to represent the country in national and international-level competitions in the future.
The matches will be played at the Mahatma Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Raichur on six courts equipped to meet national-level standards.
The official logo of the tournament was unveiled on the occasion in the presence of District in-charge Minister Dr Ajay Dharam Singh, Raichur Rural MLA and chairman of the Karnataka Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Basanagouda Daddal, Raichur City MLA Dr S Shivaraj Patil, MLC A Vasanth Kumar and others.
