Karnataka Food Safety Drive: Six Sweet Units Shut, Expired Products Seized

Six sweet manufacturing units in Karnataka have been temporarily shut following food safety violations detected during a statewide inspection drive. Authorities also seized hundreds of kilograms of expired and mislabelled products and found unhygienic conditions at several units.
The special drive was conducted on Monday on the directions of Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader. Food safety officials carried out inspections at sweet manufacturing and other food business units across Bengaluru and several districts.
The inspections covered Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, the Greater Bengaluru Authority, Mysuru, Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, Kalaburagi and Hubballi-Dharwad.
Officials also collected samples of sweets and other food products for laboratory testing. These included cooking and fresh oil, pulses, gram or channa, jalebi, khova, tea powder, Mysore Pak, Jahangir and mixture.
The samples have been sent to government food laboratories to determine whether they meet the prescribed food safety standards.
The inspection drive was conducted under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Rules, 2011.
